Kaz has been interested in all things alternative energy for more than 30 years. Friends building envelope homes many decades ago sparked within her a deep interest about different ways to look at using the sun and other forms of energy.
While camping at a remote hot spring 20 years ago, Kaz met a fellow camper and his wife and infant child with their cardboard solar cooker making delicious food in the middle of nowhere. Kaz learned how to make inexpensive solar cookers for herself and friends while enjoying the delicious food that they make...for free! Food cooked slowly with the sun has an intangible flavor that transforms an ordinary meal into a delicious repast as meats become tender, sugars are converted more completely, and flavors are melded.
Kaz has successfully built a simple trombe wall on her house using furring strips and shrink wrap, used solar electric panels on her motor home to camp out at remote hot springs for extended periods of time, sold solar electric systems for homes and businesses, and constructed and cooked with various models of solar ovens made from cardboard.
As an artist, Kaz chooses to custom paint her cardboard Sunshine Ovens™ which become a personal expression of her personality, while being dramatically distinctive from commercial and all other solar cookers. Amazingly, her cookie/pizza oven reaches over 300°, while her roasting oven tops over 400°!
Kaz happily lives full time in the "Valley of the Sun", and is a champion of the importance of the sun and how we can harness its vast resources for energy and healing, especially by re-purposing materials for little or no cost while being environmentally sustaining.
She owns Art Explorers (an artistic and adventurous Meetup group), creates Art in many mediums and sizes on commission, and teaches classes in art. Kaz is currently teaching workshops in the Phoenix area to build your own cardboard Sunshine Oven™, where she also assists you in custom painting your creation! Artistic, Functional, and Durable! Why not get out of your hot kitchen and use the free sun to cook with your own Sunshine Oven?
